The weather's so weird today, isn't it?
The weather's usually a go-to topic when you don't know what to say, it's a perfect ice breaker, as it saves you from the hassle of wondering whether the other person will relate to what you're saying. It's always a common thing between any number of individuals.
I want to talk about the weather, though.
And not for the sake of escaping an awkward silence.
I find pleasure in talking about the little, trivial, daily things. I sincerely want to know what you think about today's weather. How it affected you. Whether you thought about it at all. Oh, you were in bed all day? I love those lazy days. Were you reading something? Tell me all about it.
Lately, I've heard/read a lot of muslim scholars'/thinkers' opinions about "trivial" thoughts/conversations which pressured me into thinking that I have to give up this part of myself, but I've reached the conclusion that, it's not that I can't do it, it's just not even doable.
I don't think it's right. I believe that those "trivial" things are actually the essence of life.
Yes, people are dying out there. Yes, Palestine is still occupied. Yes, muslims are straying from the right path every second. Yes, some people are claiming to be tetrasexual. Yes, the whole world's a mess. Yes, there are big things to think, talk and worry about, but the trivial things make life just a bit bearable.
So if the whole world is going crazy, and you have a ton of things to worry about in your journey of trying to save the world, because you can't help but feel responsible, it's still okay to look at your friend and ask them about the weather, and then, perhaps, grab some coffee.
The world is not going anywhere.
